The first stage of creating the barrel pattern was to construct a wooden blank,
ready to be turned on the lathe.
This is the half finished back half of the barrel pattern on lathe.
The two wooden halves have been turned into shape and are ready to be joined together.
The steel liner (to the left of the picture) will be placed in the sand casting mould formed by the barrel pattern.
At this stage the liner is longer than necessary such that the end may locate in the sand mould when the barrel is cast.
The barrel pattern was split length ways and painted, ready to go to the caster.
